USAA Magazine
Digital Version
I had the unique opportunity to design the digital version of USAA Magazine for tablets, e-readers, and smart phones. Not only did I layout each page for every version, but I also created the UI that would be carried through each issue for every device. Condensing down a printed version of the magazine for a small screen presented plenty of challenges, but also offered new ways for the reader to engage with content.
With different screen sizes and aspect ratios between devices, each version had to handle page layouts in various capacities while still respecting the original content of the print magazine. Below are some examples of how each page appears on each platform.
Example of a front of book page layout redesigned for tablet and smart phone formats.
Each bullet point in the print version was converted into a interactive expandable and collapsible tap element for the tablet version.
Example of a back of book page with added video link exclusive to the digital version of the magazine.
The blue info box used on the print version was turned into a tappable icon to regain white space lost in the print version. With the added real estate on a digital platform, the user could scroll down to read through the story and find an exclusive video link.
